报告摘要:
The field of nanoscience and nanotechnology has made great strides during the last two decades and permeated into multiple application areas. Nevertheless, the application of nanotechnology benefiting the poor and impoverished is very rare and often not worth mentioning. In our work, we have integrated the fundamentals of nanotechnology and the Donnan membrane principle to develop and commercialize a new class of hybrid nanosorbents, referred to as HAIX-Nano. HAIX-Nano is essentially a new class of hybrid anion exchangers inside which Fe(III) oxide or Zr(IV) oxide nanoparticles have been irreversibly dispersed (US Patent # 7,291,578). HAIX-Nano is durable, selective and reusable after regeneration for tens of cycles.
Over 400 million people in 50 different countries around the world are exposed to poisoning by drinking arsenic and fluoride contaminated groundwater. For its robustness, operational simplicity, reusability and cost effectiveness, HAIX-Nano is currently in use to provide arsenic- and fluoride-safe water to over one million people in ten different countries including the USA. During the lecture, I will provide the underlying fundamentals and field-level performance results of HAIX-Nano.
Arup K. SenGupta教授简介:
SenGupta教授自1994年起在理海大学土木与环境学院担任教授,2014年成为美国国家研究院(NAI) 院士。他是离子交换技术和饮用水除砷方面的专家,是“道南膜效应理论”的提出者和奠基人,在过去的20年间始终致力于水质安全保障技术,并着力改善亚洲和 非洲等贫困国家的饮用水水质。他发明的除砷技术在印度和肯尼亚地区广泛应用,解决了几百万农村及偏远地区的饮用水安全问题。
SenGupta教授曾担任Environ. Sci. & Tech., Water Research等多个知名期刊主编及副主编,拥有近十个美国国家发明专利,发表包含Environ. Sci. & Tech.,Water Research等有影响力的环境学术期刊论文近百篇,其中几篇经典文章引用数超过1000次。因为他的杰出成就,曾获得多项国际大奖,包括:2012年 国际环境奖,2009年美国ACS斯特莱斯(Astellas)研究创新奖、美国科技创新奖和美国化学学会劳伦斯奖,2008年获美国土木学会研究贡献奖 和美国化工协会突出贡献奖,2007年获得美国国家工程院银奖并于同年获得希尔曼杰出教育奖,等等。
